Lei Pāpale This lei pāpale, in the wili poepoe style, was made by Leilehua Yuen for the late Keikilani “Aunty Dolly” Josiah, for Mother’s Day, 2009. Lei pāpale can be made in almost any style, though the most common are wili, wili poepoe, haku, and humu papa. A lei hulu kōlea (golden plover feather lei) lei pāpale (circa ~1950) made in the humu papa style by Charles Perez for his daughter, Keikilani “Aunty Dolly” Josiah. The kōlea feathers are backed with pheasant feathers. Today they are protected, but still face danger due to habitat loss.
